Recently, my family and I went through a tough week. These are the moments when you, as an individual and as a working person, take a step back. You gain perspective, find a different calm in your mind, which allows you to thrive again and regain enthusiasm for your work. The past two weeks have also been intense; I’ve had many interviews about Pilates, the latest trends, my vision on them, and so on. It's fun, but also quite distracting. I often get carried away by the opinions of others and their management styles. Entrepreneurs make different choices than I do myself. That's perfectly fine, but it diverts me from my own motivation, choices, and approach. I realize that I must rise above that and let myself be less influenced by opinions or discussions. So here I am, trying to position myself in a way that I maintain an overview of my approach and my way of working, so that others can no longer affect me.
My drive, the reason I love my work, is working with the energy of people. I train them in a way that allows me to sense what they need on that day, while also keeping a clear overview of what the future may hold. It’s wonderful to help people in this way. It’s about caring, training, stimulating, boosting life energy, but at the same time, I do not want to hold their hand. They make their own choices. The beautiful mix of strength, flexibility, and control makes Pilates a fantastic system. One person may need more focus on one aspect while another needs attention on a different one. Some are more advanced in this area while others are just starting. In the world we live in, where everyone must process daily tasks and emotions, it’s fantastic that we, as trainers, can be a part of the motivation for why people get out of bed each morning. It’s so important to have something like this in your life. I am so grateful for this work because I can make a difference. Jeroen
