It is particularly frustrating that I have to say "traditional Pilates," and this is due to the proliferation of "Pilates studio" or reformer concepts.
Pilates and Fascia, what do they have in common?! If you have ever taken a traditional Pilates class, you have undoubtedly noticed the focus on the full use of your body, from feet to head. But did you know that Pilates not only strengthens your muscles but also has a significant impact on your fascia? Fascia is a network of connective tissue that surrounds your muscles, organs, and bones, and plays a crucial role in how we move and how our bodies function. Scientific research shows that fascia affects our range of motion, stability, and even our posture. Through Pilates, you help strengthen your muscles in various areas of your body, but you also stimulate the fascia to better relax, open up, and recover. Fascia can sometimes develop adhesions or tensions due to stress, injuries, or a lack of movement, which can lead to pain and stiffness. This is where osteopathy and Pilates beautifully complement each other. Osteopathy focuses on restoring balance in the body by freeing limitations in the fascia and other tissues. The controlled movements of Pilates help relieve these tensions and bring the fascia back into balance. This makes this method so unique. It also emphasizes the significant difference from current reformer fitness Pilates routines, which often focus on intensity and muscle isolation, rather than restoring fascial health and the full-body approach. The most effective way to build additional elastic fibers (fascia) is through dynamic muscle work that builds strength while simultaneously stretching, which is precisely the essence of what we do with Pilates. Through this integrative approach, you not only feel better, but you also begin to move much more freely. So, the next time you do Pilates, remember that you are not just training your muscles but also helping your fascia to become healthier and more flexible. The Magic of Teamwork! Pilates & Osteopathy: the perfect team for your health! The results? Better performance, less pain, and a healthier you! So, if you want to train smarter instead of harder, work together with a real Pilates trainer and an osteopath for ultimate results! YEAH! Spread the word, folks! Jeroen
